May 2008

A-Rod Back, DJ Out, Gonzo In

To those who said that Gonzalez should have got sent down when A-Rod came back:

Well, guess what?  Jeter was taken out of the game after being HBP (and playing losy baseball) in favor of Alberto. Yeah, I'm concerned about Derek, but he's probably fine.  However, who would Girardi have put in for Jeter if Alberto was not sent down?  Hmm . . . Just take a minute and think about it.  I think the only option other than Gonzo would A-Rod, right? That's not fair.

Yankees losing 10-0 to Baltimore thanks to Mike Mussina's outing that lasted on 2/3 of an inning, Ohlendorf's inability to be a long reliever, AND a Jeter error.

Scranton WB Yankees

Their game got rained out again!!  DH tomorrow vs Pawtucket Red Flops

According to Chad Jennings (beat writer for SWB) this is how many DH the Yankees have had recently:

~ two double headers in three days
~ three double headers in a week
~ four double headers this month

On May 2, SWB played two verses Durham Bulls and won both games (6-1, 4-3)
On May 12, SWB played two verses Indianapolis Indians and also won both games (2-1, 5-2)
On May 16, SWB played two verses Louisville Bats, spliting the DH (won 4-0, lost 4-2)

Overall this team is pretty good playing during double headers (knock on wood!).

Guess you'll know where I'll be tomorrow!!

So Shocking!

NOT!

I'm still wondering what the outcome of the game might have been if Darrell Rasner started.

I know that Rasner is no CY Young, but the Yankees manager really messed up.

Rasner needed to start that game.  He really did.  Now, because he was skipped, he is going many many days without starting a game.  Sometimes skipping starts for pitchers messes them up in some way.

I really hope that Rasner isn't affected by this.  Otherwise the Yankees manager might get an earful.

It's About Time

Giambi just hit a solo homerun off of Santana to close the gap to 3 runs.

Whoopie!

Farnsworth Follows in Pettitte's Footsteps

The manager of the Yankees (I'm to disgusted with him to speak his name) decided to replace Andy Pettitte will Krazy Kyle Farnsworthless.  Farnsworth gave up two homers in the seventh.  Mets now lead 6-2.

Pettitte's Losing

Yeah, I know.  He struck out the side in the first and the first 5 out of 7 batters that he faced.  But guess what?  He's losing 3-2.

Oh yeah, Jeter had a homer.

Bats and Yankees Split Double-Header; Rasner's Not Pitching Today

Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankee pitcher, Kei Igawa, gave up 4 runs (3 earned), 5 hits, walk, 5 strikeouts, in a 4-2 loss to the Lousiville Bats in game 2 of a double-header.  Game 1 was won by SWB 4-0.

For the Yankees:

Cody Ransom: 3-4, RBI, 2 errors
Brett Gardner: 1-4, RBI, outfield assist
Jason Lane also had an outfield assist

For the Bats:

Jay Bruce: 2-3, 2-Run homer, 2 runs
Adam Rosales:  1-3, 2B, 2 runs
Jolbert Cabrera/Kevin Barker: RBI each

WP: Gary Majewski (1 IP, 1 hit, 1 R/ER, 2 walks)
LP:  Kei Igawa
S: Danney Herrera: (0.1 IP, 0 hits/runs/walks/strikeouts)

Side note: Both games ended after 7 innings.

Anyway, back to the bigs,

RASNER IS NOT PITCHING TODAY AGAINST THE METS!!

Why?  I do not know.

If he and and the coaching staff (aka Girardi and Eiland) are hiding an injury that would be one thing, but I don't think they are.  Rasner was supposed to start yesterday if the game wasn't rained out, so why not start him today?

I was actually looking forward to a Rasner vs Santana showdown in the Bronx.  But I guess that will have to wait.

Pettitte? PETTITTE? (Mike Mussina's been more consistant than Pettitte)

I don't agree with Girardi/Eiland's decision on this.

And it's not going to take a Yankees win for me to think it was a good move; it's going to take an OUTSTANDING performance from Pettitte in order to change my mind.

I'll probably be back during game-time.  I think it's an afternoon game.

Game 2

It's Kei Igawa (SWB) vs Justin Mallett (LOU) and it's already depressing.  Igawa gave up a 2-run homer, giving Louisville the lead in the bottom of the first.  At this rate, I'd rather see Pavano in this rotation spot instead.

If only Dan Giese was invinsible and could pitch 14+ scoreless innings in one day.

I really don't feel like live blogging anymore.  It's late.  Kei Igawa's pitching.  It's really late.  Kei Igawa's really pitching.

Tomorrow morning I'll post the final score (probably in favor of Louisville) and the game summary/stats.  See ya!

I Have No Life

Because the Yankees game was rained out today, I have nothing to do right now.  (Except for homework that I don't want to do on a Friday night!)

So I have decided to "live blog" the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees double header currently going on.  They are playing the Louisville Bats (CIN).  Dan Giese (SWB) vs Homer Bailey (CIN).  Even though it's in the middle of Game 1, I will start from the very beginning . . .

Once upon a time in the top of the first:

Brett Gardner (CF) walks
Brett Gardner steals second
Justin Christian (LF) lines out (1 out)
(with Jason Lane batting) Brett Gardner is caught stealing third (2 out)
Jason Lane (RF) walks
Juan Miranda (1B) hits a 2-run homerun
Cody Ransom (SS) walks
(with Eric Duncan at-bat) Cody Ransom is caught stealing third (3 out)  2-0 SWB

Bottom of the first:

Chris Dickerson (RF) lines out (1 out)
Jolbert Cabrera (3B) singles
Jay Bruce (CF) lines out (2 out)
Andy Phillips (DH) walks (Jolbert Cabrera to second)
Kevin Barket (1B) grounds out (3 out)  2-0 SWB

Top of the second:

Eric Duncan (3B) grounds out (1 out)
Nick Green (2B) lines out (2 out)
Gregory Porter (DH) flies out (3 out) 2-0 SWB

Bottom of the second:

Ryan Hanigan (C) grounds out (1 out)
Adam Rosales (SS) pops out in foul territory (2 out)
Drew T Anderson (LF) grounds out (3 out)  2-0 SWB

Top of the third:

Chris Stewart (C) doubles
Brett Gardner walks
Justin Christian hits an RBI single; Chris Stewart scores; Brett Gardner to third
(with Jason Lane batting) Justin Christian steals second and Brett Gardner scores on a                            throwing error (Ryan Hanigan)
Jason Lane grounds out (1 out)
Juan Miranda walks
Cody Ransom strikes out (2 out)
Eric Duncan strikes out (2 out) 4-0 SWB

Bottom of the third:

Michael Griffin (2B) grounds out (1 out)
Chris Dickerson grounds out (2 out)
Jolbert Cabrera grounds out (3 out)  4-0 SWB

Top of the fourth:

Nick Green flies out (1 out)
Gregory Porter strikes out (2 out)
Chris Stewart flies out (3 out) 4-0 SWB

Bottom of the fourth:

Jay Bruce strikes out (1 out)
Andy Phillips lines out (2 out)
Kevin Barket strikes outs (3 out) 4-0 SWB

Top of the fifth:

Brett Gardner singles
Justin Christian strikes out (1 out)
Jason Lane walks; Brett Gardner to second
Juan Miranda reaches on fielder's choice; Jason lane out at second (2 out); Brett Gardner to third
Cody Ransom hit by pitch . . . BASES LOADED!!
Eric Duncan grounds into a fielder's choice; Cody Ransom out at second (3 out)  4-0 SWB

Bottom of the fifth:

Ryan Hanigan singles
Adam Rosales lines out (1 out)
Drew T Anderson grounds out (2 out); Ryan Hanigan to second
Michael Griffin reaches on fielding error (Eric Duncan); Ryan Hanigan to third
Chris Dickerson grounds out (3 out)  4-0 SWB

Top of the sixth:

*Pitching change: Jim Brower replaces Homer Bailey*

Nick Green strikes out (1 out)
Gregory Porter strikes out (2 out)
Chris Stewart lines out (3 out)  4-0 SWB

Homer Bailey's line: 5 IP, 4 hits (1 homerun), 4 R/ER, 6 walks, 4 strikeouts, HBP, 99 pitches, 50 strikes

Bottom of the sixth:

Jolbert Cabrera lines out (1 out)
Jay Bruce strikes out (2 out)
Andy Phillips flies out (3 out)  4-0 SWB

Top of the seventh:

*Pitching Change: Todd Coffey replaces Jim Brower*

Brett Gardner grounds out (1 out)
Justin Christian strikes out (2 out)
Jason Lane grounds out (3 out)  4-0 SWB

Jim Brower's line: 1 IP, 0 hits, 0 R/ER, 0 walks, 2 strikeouts, 14 pitches, 11 strikes

Bottom of the seventh:

* Defensive Substitutions:  Bernie Castro replaces third baseman, Eric Duncan, batting 6th and playing second; Cody Ransom is the new third baseman; Nick Green is the new shortstop*

Kevin Barker grounds out (1 out)
Ryan Hanigan singles
Adam Rosales flies out (2 out)
Drew T Anderson strikes out BUT wild pitch by Dan Giese; Drew T Anderson to first; Ryan Hanigan to second
Michael Griffin grounds out (3 out)

So apparently the game just ended.  Just ended.  After 7 innings, the game ended.  7 innings, not 9 innings.  Weird.

Anyway, Dan Giese is my new favorite pitcher.  Danny pitched a complete game shutout!!  His line: 7 IP, 3 hits, 0 R/ER, walk, 4 strikeouts, 90 pitches, 63 strikes, wild pitch.

(Todd Coffey's line for LOU: 1 IP, 0 hits, 0 R/ER, 0 walks, strike out)

SWB Offensive

Brett Gardner, CF: 1-2, 2 BB, SB, CS, run scored
Justin Christian, LF:  1-4, RBI, SB, 2 Ks
Jason Lane, RF:  0-2, 2 BB, run scored
Juan Miranda, 1B: 1-2, 2-run homer, BB
Cody Ransom, SS-3B: 0-1, BB, K, CS
Eric Duncan, 3B:  0-3, K, 5 LOB, fielding error
      Bernie Castro, 2B: 0-0
Nick Green, 2B-SS:  0-3, K
Gregory Porter, DH:  0-3, 2 Ks
Chris Stewart, C:  1-3, 2B, run scored

LOU Offensive

Chris Dickerson: 0-3
Jolbert Cabrera: 1-3
Jay Bruce: 0-3, 2 Ks

Kevin Barker: 0-3, K
Ryan Hanigan: 2-3, throwing error
Adam Rosales: 0-3
Drew T Anderson: 0-3, K
Michael Griffin: 0-3

I'll be back with the next game.  Hopefully it will be longer than 7 inning.

30 Minutes Wasted

I just spent 30 minutes of my life typing up 37 vocab words for Chemistry.  Words, that in a couple months, may never be heard/said/seen by me again.

This is why I'm going into Sports Management in college.

Sports are my life.

Baseball is my life.

New York Yankees baseball, especially, is my life.

Chemistry is not my life.  It never has and it never will be.

Sadly.

Are You Kidding Me?

I'm very fustrated with four Yankee related things.

1) Losing three out of four to the Rays - pathetic

2) Jonny Gomes - acts as if he's on the Red Flops.

3) Ian Kennedy - ahhhhhh!

4) That fact that I've missed the last two Thursday games because I just assumed that games usually started at 7pm on the East Coast. I really after the game (around 6:30pm) that I could have been watching the game after school instead of doing PreCalc homework.

There's one thing good though, Cano was 4-4 (4 singles) and an RBI yesterday.  (Butof course went 1-4 today.  Robbie, Robbie, what are you going to do with you?)

Oh, and that whole Manny Ramirez thing - it was the in-class discussion during US History today in school.  I almost cried; they made it sound like Manny wasn't being Manny, but Spiderman.

D-Ras Comes Through Again

Darrell Rasner has definitely earned himself a spot in the Yankees starting rotation.  His outing today was just like his first one . . . WIN-derful!  Two runs in 6+ innings?  Not bad.

Derek had his first homer today.  I still can't believe that Cano hit 4 homers this year before Jeter hit his first.  Weird, I know.

Wilson Betemit got injured again.  No, not pink eye.  Hamstring injury.  Not exactly sure how long he'll be out for.

Do I hear the phone ringing for Alberto Gonzalez?

I've Got to Get Better at This

3 posts in a 3 week span? Pathetic.

But not as pathetic as: Hughes and Kennedy pitching/injuring their ways out of the NY rotation; Gonzalez being demoted *tear*;Roger Clemens David Wells wanting to join the Yankees yet again; and Red Sox winning every single game because their opposition can't do squat.

Pathetic. Pathetic.

However, Cano and Giambi both homered in an afternoon game (that I had no idea about) yesterday.  Cano's average is improving . . . it's .172.  Hip Hip Cano!!

Hughes-ton, We Have A Problem!

Forget about the games (that I was going to write about), we all know how the Yankees have played over the past couple of weeks.

Wang improving to 5-0 while Hughes faltering to 0-4; Mussina, Pettitte and Kennedy still hanging in there; Melky and Giambi leading the team in homers; Joba losing his first game EVER; bunch of players are on the DL . . . you remember.

The unfortunate (or fortunate if you're a trade-for-Santana kind of person) news is that Hughes is going to be missing many, many games with a rib injury.  He won't be able to do anything baseball related (except being a cheerleader) for at least a month.  Terrible news for such a young guy.  He's obviously been pitching poorly this year, but you still hate to see another Yankee go on the DL.

I know that Girardi was tougher on the NYY during ST than Joe Torre ever was.  But do you think Girardi went over the top?  Posada, A-Rod, Bruney, and Hughes* are on the DL; Farnsworth, Chamberlain, Jeter, and Molina have had their share of injuries as well . . . something's up . . .that's all I know.

*I would have included Betemit, put I don't think Girardi had anything to do with pink-eye.

So Far Away . . .

. . . doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore?

A lot of baseball topics can fit this line over the 2+ weeks I've been away.

  • Posada, Betemit, A-Rod, Bruney, and Phil Hughes are all on the DL
  • Chad Moeller came, left (DFA'd), came back
  • Shelley Duncan came back up
  • Billy Traber was sent to SWB
  • Ramirez, Britton, Alba have been up and down between NY and SWB a million times each.
  • Gonzalez (who originally came up to play SS) can play 3B and 2B.
  • Girardi has practically had a different line up every game
  • TB is not last in the AL East  - - was in 1st
  • Barry Zito is in SF bullpen

Many things.  Many things.

I'll be back with players' stats and game recaps of the many games that were played during the time that I was pulling a Phil Hughes - - not updating my blog on a consistent basis.

I will try to do better.  I will try to do better.
