Oops!

It's been awhile . . . my bad.  Don't worry, I've been an avid Yankee fan since May 20, just haven't had the time to add entries to 26 and Counting.  Oh well.

First, I had to go back to see when the last time I had written (May 20) and decided to see how far back the Yankees were from whoever was leading the AL East and the AL Wild Card.  Currently, the AL East looks like this:

The Yanks have only moved three games closer to the division lead, but it's better than nothing.  Also, the Yankees are currently 3rd in the AL Wild Card chase, 3 games behind (2 in the loss column) the Red Sox. (MIN is second).  This compares to May 30th, when the Yankees were 6.5 games back of the then AL Wild Card leader, Rays.  Overall, during these past two months, the Yankees have gained ground, but probably should and could of gained more.

I'm have no intentions of going into every single detail about what has happened over the past two months, as I assume most of you followed the team.

  • Damon and Matsui are both on the DL; Damon's looking to come back any day while Matsui may be looking at season-ending knee surgery.
  • Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy are still on the DL; Kennedy's in Scranton, pitching in rehab games while Hughes is still in Tampa finally starting to pitch (but not in any games, yet).
  • A million other players have been either sent down to the minors, sent to the DL, called up from the minors, or any combination of those.  (Brett Gardner has since made his debut and is one of the fastest Yankees I have ever seen.)
  • Bobby Murcer passed away a few days prior to the All-Star Game.  It was very sad to hear this because he had an important part to all of the Yankee organization, its players, staff, etc as well as Yankee fans.  He was someone who played with Mickey Mantle and Don Mattingly.  I find that amazing . . . starting with the All-Star Game, the Yankees are wearing black bands on their sleeves in memory of Murcer, just like they did with Cory Lidle.  Man, Lidle in 2006, Phil Rizzuto last year, and now Murcer.   Wow.
  • Yankees sign Richie Sexson

Other:

  • AL won the All-Star Game (no shock); Michael Young hit the game winning sac fly (no shock); Rivera and Papelbon pitched (no shock); and JD Drew recieved the MVP (no shock, because nobody really stood out, aside from Rockies' pitcher Aaron Cook, who pitched three innings).
  • Josh Hamilton somehow lost the HomeRun Derby.  I'm still confused.

I know I'm missing a bunch, but you'll get over it.  You probably know it all anyway.
