Brett Gardner Answers Brian Cashman's Cruel Words With Two Stolen Bases
Earlier today, Peter Abraham said:
"Cashman said the team is better with Cabrera in center and Swisher in right. Not with Brett Gardner in the lineup."
Even though Brett didn't start today, he sure gave the Yankees a great chance to win in the ninth. With the Yankees down 3-2, he pinch-ran for Mark Teixeira and quickly stole both second and third (SBs #13 and #14). Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano both had opportunities to knock this tying run in. A-Rod walked but Cano grounded into a game-ending DP.
I still think that Brett should get some 'love' for his base running.
He, the fastest player on the Yankees, was on third with less than two outs...
90 feet away from home...
Robbie Cano ruined it.

Brian Cashman should shut his mouth. The best defense for the Yankees would be Gardner on centerfield, Melky at right and Johnny on Left. Swisher is ok at right not great. He's made too many mistakes to me at right. Truth of it is that Gardner has more speed than Melky. He could get to certain balls faster than Melky can. I like Melky Cabrera but he can play anywhere, whether it's right or left field or center. I actually think that they do need Gardner in the line up. Have Matsui and Swisher both alternate DH. Swisher is Ok with the bat too. He goes in and out of slumps. I remember seeing Gardner lst year and said that the Yankees needed him because of his speed. He can get that extra hit when they need it. I just hope they don't do anything stupid like trade him. One teams trash will be another teams treasure.
